Dr. Bilgin participated in 2nd ACSEE, Zurich

On 25-26 October 2014, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Huseyin Bilgin, Head of Civil Engineering Department, delivered his speech as an invited keynote speaker in the “Second International Conference on Advances in Civil, Structural and Environmental Engineering - ACSEE” which was held in Zurich, Switzerland. Dr. Bilgin discussed about "Seismic performance evaluation by means of nonlinear static methods: emphasis on RC buildings".

In his speech, he outlined the deterministic and probabilistic methods for evaluating the realistic seismic performance level of existing reinforced concrete buildings. He gave an overview about the limit states of the structures based on the residual damage rates of members corresponding to the performance objectives as: (1) Immediate occupancy, (2) Life safety, and (3) Collapse prevention. Then he summarized the steps of deterministic and probabilistic approaches for the seismic assessment of existing building. At the end, he concluded his speech with a detailed performance assessment of a case study building with nonlinear static procedures from real life.

Researchers from 52 different countries participated in this event. The conference included presentations covering a broad variety of topics of Civil, Structural and Environmental Engineering by Institute of Research Engineers and Doctors (IRED).
